Takt Planning
Takt Planning has been used internationally for decades to improve the speed and reliability of construction. ProgressAmp is helping Australian project teams apply it practically - combining international thinking with local project experience, technology and implementation support.

What is Takt Planning
Takt Planning is a method of planning construction by breaking the work into stable, repeating time periods. This is known as the Takt time.
Work zones are then designed—and trade workloads balanced—so each trade can complete its work in a zone within the agreed Takt time. At the end of each Takt, the trade moves to the next zone and the following trade moves in behind it.
This creates a stable and repeatable rhythm as work progresses through the project. In simple terms: the right amount of work, completed in the right-sized area, within a reliable period of time.
What are the benefits of Takt?
Structural works on an Indonesian project reduced from a baseline programme of 190 days to an actual delivery period of 148 days.
Exterior cladding on a California hospital was completed in five months against an original allowance of 11 months.
A worker-tracking study recorded an average of 3.6 floor changes per worker each day on a Takt project, compared with 22.3 on a traditionally planned project.
A German retail fit-out reduced its completion period from more than 10 days to three days.
Is Takt planning a good choice for your project?
Takt works best where construction can be organised into zones and work can move through those zones in a repeatable sequence.
Your project may be a strong fit if it has:
- Repeated floors, rooms, sections or work areas
- Multiple trades following a similar sequence
- Significant pressure on the construction programme
- High site establishment or preliminary costs
- Congested work areas
- Frequent interference between trades
- Complex logistics or material movements
- Design, procurement or fabrication activities that must be closely aligned with construction
- A need for better production visibility and control
Typical applications include hospitals, data centres, commercial buildings, residential developments, stadiums, advanced manufacturing, and energy projects.
How ProgressAmp can help
ProgressAmp helps project teams determine whether Takt is right for their project, design the production system and put it into practice. We work with project leaders, planners and trade partners to:
- Design the Takt time, work zones and trade sequence
- Test construction, logistics and resourcing assumptions
- Connect the Takt plan with design, procurement and supply-chain releases
- Align production planning with the P6 or Microsoft Project programme
- Establish practical planning, control and improvement routines
During tendering, Takt can help test the proposed methodology and create a stronger, more credible delivery strategy.
During construction, we help the team validate the plan with the trades, manage constraints and maintain the production rhythm.
ProgressAmp leads the Australian engagement. Where required, we draw on Aleksi Heinonen and vison.fi's experience across more than 50 international Takt projects. We can also use vPlanner to provide the digital production-control layer.
We bring together international Takt expertise, Australian project knowledge and practical implementation support.

The Takt-based approach reduced the duration of the carpark construction works by approximately 75 days, removing the works from the project critical path while simultaneously creating a more stable and consistent workflow for subcontractors.
